More Information

  • Applied Uses:
    - Vestibular Activities: Vestibular stimulation can be used in either of two ways, to elicit an adaptive protective or equilibrium response, to effect a change in a child muscle tone without requiring an adaptive response on the part of the child.
    - Prone/Supine Positioning: The prone or supine position can be used to develop improved head control, shoulder girdle stability and help prevent contractures and deformities in the lower extremities by facilitating hip extention, abduction and external rotation, knee extention and ankle dorsiflexion.
    - Side Lying Positioning: Side lying enables the child to achieve a beginning midline control that is important motorically, cognitively and perceptually. It facilitates the development of eye hand coordination as the child visually monitors his arm and hand movements.
    - Sitting Positions: Independent sitting enables the child to engage in a range of activities involving varying degrees of eye/hand coordination while upright. Both Roll sitting and Long leg sitting can be used to maintain or increase range of motion.
